Bill Wyman is a man on a mission, a bassist who appreciates the basics, but whose prolific prowess takes him well beyond. That’s not only borne out by his new solo album, Drive My Car, his first individual offering in eight years and his sixth solo album overall, but also the fact that as a seminal member of The Rolling Stones and chief cheerleader in the loose conglomerate of musicians known as Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, his allegiance to, and affinity for, the staples of basic blues and early rock and roll have been his ongoing indulgence since his somewhat surprising departure from the Stones in the early 1990s.
