In my senior year of high school, I was all about New Wave and punk music. I loved The Clash, Joe King Carrasco and Talking Heads. And when the Heads came to Austin’s historic Armadillo World Headquarters in 1979, I was ecstatic. A band called Perfect Fools was supposed to open the show — at least that’s what it said on the ticket. But the afternoon of the show, I went into Inner Sanctum Records, and my friend Jack was playing a record that instantly blew me away. He said this was the band that would actually be opening for the Heads that night, not Perfect Fools. He and I just listened: “Planet Claire,” “52 Girls,” “Dance This Mess Around.” And wildest of all, “Rock Lobster.” We were transfixed. It…
