AT LEAST 100 horses died during the filming of the 1925 silent movie Ben-Hur — but it was the 25 horses who died while making the 1936 historical adventure flick The Charge of the Light Brigade that brought lasting change in Hollywood. Even the film’s swashbuckling star, avid horseman ERROL FLYNN, was horrified by how the equines met their fate during the epic battle scene, where tripwires were used to tumble the galloping steeds.
