Garden celebrates black history Anew landscaped garden has been unveiled in a North London park to mark Black History Month. Entitled The Anchor, The Drum, The Ship, the garden in Gladstone Park in Brent features three flower beds in the shape of an anchor, an African drum and a ship, to commemorate the history of Black Britons. Antonia Couling, a Brent-based garden designer, has worked with artist Harun Morrison to bring the garden to life. She addressed Harun’s request for perennial planting that will survive in this exposed, dry, sunny site, while providing interest throughout the year. The intention is to leave the majority of plants over the winter rather than cutting them back so that the frost-laden stems and flower heads provide added interest in the colder months.
