This has got me thinking more than ever about some alternative approaches to turf and how we manage our lawns. One simple approach is to allow part of your previously tightly trimmed lawn to run wild and become meadow. A mown path through a longer meadow area or a meadow section towards the end of the garden will survive drought and support more wildlife than a conventional, close-cropped lawn.
