Ready to give fall northerns a try? These are some of the best pike fisheries in the region.

THE 1,000 ISLANDS: Sure, bass and muskies get top billing in this part of the St. Lawrence River system in Upstate New York, but the endless supply of bays and reefs also make it a northern pike factory. LAKE CHAMPLAIN: The big lake that makes up the boundary between northeastern New York and northwestern Vermont doesn’t hold a ton of giant pike, but it sure has a lot of them. For fall fishing, concentrate on the Vermont side of the lake. DEEP CREEK LAKE: Located in Garrett County, Maryland, this 4,000-acre reservoir is home to some monster pike. With regulations in place that protect smaller northerns, this body of water produced a 46-incher in 1999 that is still the state record at 24 pounds, 12 ounces.
