The Delaware River has long been one of the Northeast’s most incredible wild trout fisheries, and fall on the Big D can be spectacular. “Fall on the Delaware is like bow deer season for hunters,” long-time Delaware River guide Joe Demalderis says. “You just can’t wait for it to get here.” With winter closing in, fishermen flock to the Delaware now for a shot at 20-plus-inch spawning brown trout, as well as rainbows that can be almost as large. Demalderis, of Cross Current Outfitters based in Starlight, Pa., guides by drift boat where the East and West branches of the Delaware meet.
