If I had to pick one month for a four-week vacation, with my only responsibility being to fish as long as possible each day, I would choose May. No matter where you live in the U.S., fishing during May can be as good as it gets. Up North, ice has been off the lakes for several weeks, and many species have spawning on their minds. In the South, finicky spring weather has started to stabilize, allowing fish to fall into predictable early summer patterns. Regardless of your location, you should spend the month of May fishing shallow, in 12 to 15 feet of water and often much less.
