Mr. Crappie reveals his secrets.

To see it in the pages of a magazine or on social media, spider-rigging can be hugely formidable—especially for hook-and-bobber panfishermen. However, according Wally Marshall, aka “Mr. Crappie,” spider-rigging for crappies can be as simple as you want to make it. “It’s about two things,” says Marshall. “Boat control and gear.” Spider-rigging is a deadly crappie tactic, popular in the South and Midwest, that allows anglers to cover a lot of water while offering multiple presentations. A popular setup involves six to eight rods spread evenly across the boat. Each rod should be rigged with different jig-and-live-bait combinations in order to probe multiple depths and find fish more easily.
