You’d be hard-pressed to find a fish that is more interwoven into our nation’s history than the American shad. The Lenape Indians of the Northeast used shad as a crucial part of their diet. George Washington and his army famously harvested them from the Schuylkill River in Pennsylvania to avoid starvation during the Revolutionary War. And today, thousands of anglers flock to East Coast rivers like the Delaware, Connecticut or Kennebec for a unique and endearing style of fishing for this iconic species.
