Squid fishing calls for specialized gear.

Squid jigs aren’t terribly expensive, and it pays to have a lot of them in different colors. Some colors will work better than others on any given night, so be ready to swap out jigs if what you’re throwing isn’t working. We mostly used Yo-Zuri A1696 Mini Squid Jigs in luminous pink. There are also longer jigs, like the Otori Squid Jig, that come pre-rigged with a weight. Space two lures about 2 feet apart on your line to avoid tangles. When the bite is on, pulling in two squid at once is common. You won’t feel the bite when you first start, but you’ll get the hang of it as you go.
