Radiohead called digital music streaming “the last desperate fart of a dying corpse” and Taylor Swift and Adele have since made their own stands against such services. Go back 100 years, though, and our elders were just as sceptical about “analog streaming”, aka the radio. Technology moves on. To date, Spotify has 20 million paying customers and Apple Music around 6.5 million. Jay-Z’s Tidal is making waves thanks to its lossless streaming and people are listening via Deezer, Google Play Music and Groove. We’re also seeing rising standards: Qobuz offers true CD quality in 24-Bit hi-res. If the quality is there, which it can be, then accessing music over the web is clearly the future.
