EAT YOUR BEANS I have just had great news. John Clark’s book The Green Children of Woolpit (Exeter University Press) is out. It’s not only a superlative study of one of Britain’s first fortean mysteries, but also a bit of FT history. The author first read about the Green Children three decades ago in this very magazine (FT57:39, 41). The Green Children were two infants that turned up in East Anglia in the 12th century and were considered to be fairies by locals. They allegedly had green skin, though the green faded. The children’s arrival in Woolpit was recorded by two different writers, within a half century of the kids unaccountably appearing.
