As was all too common during the early decades of British television, no copies of Turn Out The Lights were retained in the ITV archives. What is more, no scripts are currently known to survive. It truly is a lost series. Here, we excavate the episodes’ plots from TV listings and press clippings.

1 THE BOYHOOD HAUNT  Transmitted: Fri 6 Jan 1967 Written by Peter Eckersley and Kenneth Cope Following their sacking from Dobson and Hawks, Leonard Swindley is shocked when his colleague, Walter Hunt, confesses that he is totally under the influence of his horoscope – Aries the Ram. In spite of Swindley’s scoffing, Hunt insists on introducing him to Mr Merlin (Peter Wyngarde), the famous astrologer – a meeting that leads` to the most mysterious results. Also guest starring a young Ben Kingsley as Andrew Bazir. 2 HAIL TO THEE, AUNT SHELMADINE Transmitted: Friday 13 Jan 1967 Written by Anthony Skene Swindley, suffering from a terrible cold, goes along to investigate the psychic powers of Mr Willow (Paul Whitsun-Jones pictured centre), the medium.
