PUT THAT LIGHT OUT! One of the joys of FT – for us, and, we hope, for readers – is that forteana’s reach is sufficiently wide to encompass vast and vastly different swathes of human experience and activity: so we’re tickled that while last month’s cover star was rock ’n’ roll legend Elvis Presley, this issue presented us with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to feature the great British actor Arthur Lowe in the same spot. Another thing that sustains us is being surprised by things we were not previously aware of. While Lowe will forever be identified with his role as Captain Mainwaring in Jimmy Perry and David Croft’s much-loved wartime sitcom Dad’s Army (1968-1977) he had previously found fame as Coronation Street’s Leonard Swindley, a character sufficiently popular to warrant…
