UNUSUAL WAYS OF SHUFFLING OFF THIS MORTAL COIL

The US National Park Service has released a report on Colin Scott’s death in Yellowstone Park on 7 June 2016 (FT344:80), describing his final moments. Despite signs warning visitors not to, Scott, 23, and his sister Sable stepped off the boardwalk beside the Norris Geyser Basin, with park authorities believing they were seeking a place to “hot pot” – swim illegally in one of the park’s hot springs. Colin, though, slipped and fell into the geyser pool and “did not get out”. Sable was recording their walk on her phone and captured both the moment that Colin fell in and her unsuccessful attempts to rescue him, but as there was no phone signal in the area she could not call for help and had to run to a nearby museum…
