Fa few days in 1902 a house in King’s Lynn caused a short-lived sensation, which was reported well beyond its Norfolk environs. On or about 26 May, a family from Norwich moved into a dwelling in Windsor Terrace and almost immediately were beset by paranormal pandemonium. On that first night, the young occupants of a certain bed in the back bedroom rushed from their room, after “a ghostly visitor” had given the bedstead “a good shaking… a fit of St Vitus’s dance as it were” that flung them from the mattress.
