Wilma van der Maten war viele Jahre Korrespondentin in Asien, nirgends hat sie sich so wohl- und zu Hause gefühlt wie in Pakistan. Bis sie nicht mehr einreisen durfte. Hier erzählt sie, was sie an ihrem Lieblingsland am meisten vermisst: ausgerechnet das Gefühl, ganz sie selbst sein zu können

Wenn ich nachts nicht schlafen kann, träume ich von meiner Wohnung im 14. Stock in Islamabad, auf einem Dach so groß wie ein Fußballfeld. Wo man morgens um halb fünf die Sonne wie eine rote Kugel über den dünnen Nebelschichten aufgehen sieht. Und beobachten kann, wie sie dann am Abend hinter den weißen Türmen des Sufi-Tempels wieder untergeht. Der Morgen war für mich die schönste Zeit des Tages. Während alle noch schliefen, lief ich im Schlafanzug durch den Hof, goss die Pflanzen auf meinem Dachgarten und sah den Vögeln beim Baden zu. An die Abende in Pakistan denke ich auch gern zurück. Während die Nachbar:innen Qawwalis sangen, spirituelle Lieder, begleitet von der Tabla, einer traditionellen Trommel, und einem Harmonium, saß ich auf meinem Dach und genoss das Privatkonzert.
