Inshore Speedsters

Warm summer currents bring hard-fighting inshore speedsters such as longtail tuna within reach of many anglers.

TUNA are widely regarded amongst fishos as some of, if not, the hardest fighting fish in the ocean. There are several species of tuna available to recreational anglers in Australia; Southern bluefin, yellowfin, bigeye, albacore, and longtail tuna are all on offer along the Australian coastline. Growing up as a keen landbased game (LBG) angler, the yellowfin and longtail tunas are the two “true” tuna species in particular that have interested me the most. Yellowfin and longtail tuna are steeped in Australian landbased game fishing history. Longtail have a cult-like following along the NSW North Coast every year from the LBG faithful.
