When you’re facing the sea on sunrise, it feels like the day is coming only for you. With fresh air straight off the ocean, and a fishing rod in hand, you are the ruler of all you survey. Before the sun has come into direct view, its rays filter through the horizon clouds, throwing up oranges and pinks and nature’s clock-radio blasts an alarm into the ears of fish and sea-birds alike. Chopper tailor scurry shoreward negotiating around sandbars and heavy breaks, rousting up whitebait against the shore side of the main gutter. There’s no escape for the bait school and the tailor plunder into them, berleying themselves into frenzy even further.
