Australia’s an arid land with giant expanses of desert and prolonged droughts and seasonal floods. But it’s also enormous and there are exceptions to the rule above. We have vast areas of rainforest, and the opposite extreme, miles upon miles of high country. And don’t underestimate the size of our high country. I recall a few years ago, flying from Sydney to Melbourne during winter. The flight took us over the Snowy Mountains between Canberra and into the Northern parts of Victoria. I know this area well from the ground and I still couldn’t believe just how widespread the snowfall extended.
