A Building Full of Stories

In the late 1990’s, a small group of local veterans in Laurel, Mississippi, was swapping lies over coffee when they realized that there was actually a great deal of history represented within the group. In true military fashion, someone took charge and doled out assignments. Amongst the group were accountants and lawyers. A federal grant along with a great deal of hard work built the museum building. Word went out locally requesting stories and mementos, and a copious bounty was forthcoming. The prime force behind the museum is 92-year-old WW2 Navy veteran Jimmy Bass. Jimmy possesses a sharper wit than do I as well as an unnaturally affable demeanor. His grandson is Lance Bass, the former bass singer of the band NSYNC. The museum these guys built is like a gigantic history…
