Ferrari rarely makes a mis-step. When it launched the 575M Maranello as a replacement for the 550 in the spring of 2002, the new car came with a welcome shot of extra power and sophistication. But, with an eye to creating a wider audience, particularly in the States, it also came with a softer ride. Fine for boulevards, not so good for undulating cross-country roads, where keen drivers soon found the nose and/or belly of their expensive new Ferrari grounding out in compressions.
