For a full ten seconds after I’d slid into the driver’s seat, I hesitated. I actually had a good hard think about whether I should use the excuse of my gangly frame barely fitting around the big wooden wheel rim to pass up the opportunity of a truly dream drive. Crazy, right? But this is not just any 250 Testa Rossa, this is the very 250 TR that won Le Mans in 1958 with Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien behind the four-spoke wheel, their drive sealing the World Sportscar Championship for Ferrari at the same time. What’s more, I wasn’t being offered the chance to drive it in the safe confines of an airfield or test track, I was sitting in a lay-by on an English B-road with other traffic…
