To mark its 150th anniversary, Liberty is launching ‘The House of Liberty’ collection, inspired by its remarkable archive

One hundred and fifty years is a milestone worth marking and, with its 60,000-strong archive of fabrics and artworks, Liberty had the ultimate resource to inspire its collection ‘The House of Liberty’, which debuted at Paris Déco Off. Through three ‘chapters’ charting Liberty’s evolution (Arts Club, Town House and Painter’s House), the new fabrics and wallpapers combine large-scale florals with bold geometrics. ‘I love this unexpected juxtaposition,’ says Genevieve Bennett, head of design at Liberty Interiors. Highlights include ‘Grand Thorpe’ – a fresh spin on a 1968 design, which in turn references the iconic florals of the 1930s. For her own home, Bennett would make a huge curtain out of the collection’s ‘Palm Parade’, which was discovered as a fragment in an 1880s pattern book, meaning it was one of Liberty’s…
