I had no idea what my sister was thinking when she told me she planned on installing a lilac-colored sink in her new primary bathroom. The color is one of our favorites—we’re kids of the ’80s!—but it’s a long-running joke how much everyone else hates it, from random teens we pass to my former boss, Martha Stewart. So I was like, really?! But Joanne could not be swayed, and I’m so glad she stuck to her vision. Lo and behold, she unearthed a vintage lavender Kohler basin at a salvage yard. It’s the best unexpected twist in a room otherwise filled with classic choices like tadelakt walls and terracotta tile. The space is minimal but so full of welcoming warmth.
