Growing up in Gloucestershire, my childhood was pretty normal, with the exception of one thing. My dad’s hyperactive passion for creating events and making an opera festival meant that this art form became a backdrop to family life. My dad had the big ideas, the charisma and the relentless drive, my mum, the people skills, and the passion for theatre making. Together, they transformed an old agricultural barn into a home-grown opera house, now treasured by our family, performers, and audiences alike. Their dream was not clear – most dreams are not when you are inside them, and I don’t think my dad set out with a clear long-term plan.
