Some 45 million people visit Birmingham each year and many of those head for the iconic Cadbury World first, with the world-famous confectionery brand turning 200 in 2024 (cadburyworld.co.uk). John Cadbury, a proprietor and Quaker, founded his namesake brand in 1824, initially selling drinking chocolate at his Bull Street grocery store as an ethical alternative to alcohol. He would then relocate and begin wide-scale chocolate production at a nearby warehouse, later retiring from the business due to ill-health. This allowed his sons Richard and George to take over, who, after rapid growth, commissioned the build of the factory in its current Bournville site in 1879.
