Working with family members can be quite challenging, so when the opportunity arose for Robert Davidov of Davidov Architects to design a home for his sister, brother-in-law and their two young boys, methodology came first. ‘It was important to maintain the processes and procedures that we use for other clients,’ the architect says. ‘This made things more formal at times, but it helped maintain the relationship and ensured the success of the project.’
Complementing this formal approach, however, was a high level of trust between Davidov and his sister that simplified other aspects, especially when it came to agreeing on the design and starting construction just five months from engagement.
