Roly Walmsley’s graduate collection, Hand Me Down, started as a cheesy high-school love letter. When I speak to the 25-year-old designer – his phone propped up facing his couch because his laptop webcam is broken – he promises he’ll read it to me. Only he has to do some deep breathing first because he feels nervous. He closes his eyes, moves his hands up and down, tucks his chest-length hair behind his ears, and begins. “It’s going to be a bit cheesy, but it was supposed to be cheesy,” he prefaces. “Roses are red, jeans are blue.
