The man was scaling the Cuillin range at Sgurr nan Eag on the Isle of Skye.
He plummeted around 40 metres on Wednesday morning before knocking himself unconscious and suffering a head injury.
Fortunately, he landed on a ledge or he would faced another huge drop down the munro.
Mountain rescuers say he escaped with "relatively minor injuries" considering the distance he fell.
Dramatic pictures captured the moment the man was hauled off the rocky range by helicopter before being flown to hospital.
In one snap, the man can be seen on a stretcher surrounded by crews on the sheer cliff face.
The dramatic image shows the hazardous surroundings, with rocks and boulders in the background.
A crew from the Skye Mountain Rescue Team responded to the SOS call at 10.39am.
The climber had misjudged a handhold before he crashed to the ledge below.
Two passers-by also provided first aid and helped carry kit off the hill.
Coastguard helicopter Rescue 948 was sent to the scene from Stornoway.
The chopper lifted two members to team the scene.
The man was treated by the paramedics before being winched up to the helicopter and flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
A statement from Skye Mountain Rescue said: "The team were in action today for our first Cuillin rescue of the year.
