No fishing for me this week but my friend Chris was lucky enough to get a spot at the Lake of Menteith opening day last Saturday for festivities, fishing and fun to kick off 2025.
He said: “I was lucky enough to get a boat on the Lake of Menteith for the first day.
“It was great to see the work the team there had put in over the winter, the boats were in fantastic condition and the car park was full of anglers itching to start.
“Even the weather was kind to us all, bordering on too nice. There wasn't a breath of wind and the sun was out.
“Some say it isn’t the best weather for fishing but I always think it is better than the Scottish alternative of rain and crazy winds. The feeling of spring was in the air.
“With it being an official opening ceremony, there is normally a guest speaker and this time it was the angling legend that is Paul Young. In the space of a five-minute speech, Paul was able to make every angler smile, laugh and remember of the things that makes fishing more than just about catching fish.
“I bumped into a familiar face to anyone who follows the competition or stillwater scene when I spotted Michael from Fario Flies setting up on the boat next my own.
“Michael has fished all over the world, winning Commonwealth gold and is the current Brown Bowl champion.
