'Shameful' Catholics ban lifted

The move will allow Lady Elish Angiolini KC, a practising Catholic, to serve as Lord High Commissioner of Scotland this year and act as the monarch's personal representative at the May general assembly.
The ban dates back to the Stuart-era Claim of Right Act 1689, barring Catholics from the throne and other public offices.
Much of it was repealed but this particular anti-Catholic law remained, despite no such restrictions for people of other religions or no religion.
