Tim Maguire, one of the country’s leading humanist celebrants, has announced he will not marry couples at Trump's Turnberry and Menie golf resorts, in Ayrshire and Aberdeen, while they are under the current ownership.
Maguire says many colleagues have boycotted Trump venues and has called on religious and humanist organisations to join him.
The popular registrar, who has married more than 1800 couples, is an associate with Celebrate People organisation.
He said he has conducted marriages at Trump venues in the past. But he says the decisions made by the president since he took office and his attacks on human rights prompted his move.
Maguire said: “It took a long time for humanists to win the right to conduct legal marriage in Scotland, and we won that right because we have certain distinctive beliefs.
“The change in leadership in the US represents a backward step for human rights and secular values, which has repercussions across the world.
“As Donald Trump continues to undermine the enlightenment values on which the US was founded, I feel I need to take a stand against him, small as it is.
“I feel sorry for the staff working there but I cannot bring myself to conduct ceremonies in any venue owned by him.
“As it says in The Amsterdam Declaration, humanists affirm the worth and dignity of the individual and the right of every human to the greatest possible freedom and fullest possible development compatible with the rights of others.
