Daniel Bannister got 16 weeks for breaching a restraining order to stay away from the Girls Aloud singer.
Bannister appeared at her mansion and said into the doorbell camera: “I've come to get Cheryl.”
The 50-year-old, who served jail time in 2012 for killing a homeless man in a hostel, caused the star “serious alarm” by “displaying fixated, obsessive, unwanted and repetitive behaviour”, Wycombe magistrates court was told.
Sentencing, District Judge Arvind Sharma said Bannister knew Cheryl, 41, was “very distressed and upset”.

His appearance outside her home in December was just three weeks after her ex Liam Payne’s funeral.
Cheryl, mum to their seven-year-old son Bear, said in a statement she “immediately panicked” when she spotted Bannister on a doorbell camera.
She said: “I feared for my safety immediately and I feared for my child’s safety.
“He was due back from the cinema and I didn’t want him to see Daniel.”
Cheryl said she was “concerned” he was trying to find a way inside. She said she rang a friend who was looking after Bear to tell them not to bring him back to the house, adding: “I have a child to look after. I want to protect him from any harm.”
Cheryl said it was “even more alarming” that Bannister had returned to her house after already being punished for doing so. The court was told he had previously gone to her home twice last year.

In July, he had called at the house and said through an intercom: “I'm really thirsty, I just want a glass of wine please”.
He was jailed for four months in September and slapped with the restraining order.
The stalker was also blocked from entering Buckinghamshire or attending her address.
Bannister pleaded guilty to two counts of harassment relating to the breach of a restraining order and one of attempting to breach an order.
Prosecutor Datta Ryan said: “The defendant has disregarded the victim and the court. He can't stay away.”
Colin Mackrell, defending, described Bannister as a “serious musician” who shares videos of himself performing online.

“It's clear Mr Bannister has formed an affectionate view of her,” he said.
