On Monday, firefighters battled through the night to tackle an inferno at a storage warehouse in Musselburgh.
An underworld source says both businesses were torched in retaliation for a theft from a new gangland player in the city.
The salon is reportedly owned by the partner of cocaine kingpin Mark Richardson while the warehouse is understood to be run by the dad of an ex-girl-friend of the gangster.
Richardson was jailed in 2018 for possessing a loaded gun. He was one of nine men jailed for a total of 90 years for his role in drugs and arms plots.
The 37-year-old is in Low Moss prison, Bishopbriggs.
