A study by the pension giant also found 13 per cent of married or cohabiting people don’t think they'll have enough money put aside to retire.
Two-fifths (42 per cent) of people who are married or living with a partner feel optimistic about retirement, compared with just three in 10 future retirees who are single.
Susan Hope, a retirement expert at Scottish Widows, said: "Our research shows that there's a close link between financial security and relationship status."
