The veteran keeper, who returned to Tynecastle in a playing/mentoring role for the colts last summer, lined up alongside the talented teenager in the Lowland League at the start of the campaign.
But Wilson quickly proved he was too good for that level and has not looked back since becoming a key member of Neil Critchley's first team at the tail end of the year.
And his meteoric rise hit new levels on Tuesday when Steve Clarke named the 18-year-old in his squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League play-off double-header with Greece.
MacDonald said: "It's an amazing achievement, an amazing thing for James, his family and the club.
