Pep Guardiola has signed a new contract so can start his rebuild.
Central to his success over the previous nine years has been a core of club legends, including Kevin De Bruyne, who was at the club before the manager arrived.
However, De Bruyne is at the end of his contract and told reporters this week that talks over a new deal have still not started.
He remains calm over the situation and said in November that he wants to get over his injury issues before discussing his future.
But waiting until the New Year means De Bruyne is now able to discuss terms with overseas clubs about a move in the summer on a free transfer.
Also out of contract is Ilkay Gundogan, who returned last year after 12 months at Barcelona.
