Bid to force ex-department head to answer for wasteful spending

Willem Phungula willem.phungula@inl.co.za THE DA in KwaZulu-Natal wants the retired Education Department head, Dr Enock Nzama, to return and account for the wasteful expenditure incurred by the department for the unlawful purchase and hiring of MEC Kwazi Mshengu’s cars. Dr Imran Keeka, the DA’s education portfolio committee member, told the Daily News yesterday that Nzama must be held accountable, “even if he was no longer with the department”. He said the HOD presided over the matter and therefore he should be called to account for his “improper conduct that cost taxpayers a lot of money”. “We do not believe that the former HOD should escape this just because he has retired.
