BIS report may pave way for R1 500 monthly grant

The expert panel was made up of a mix of economic and related disciplines, including specialist expertise in the fields of social protection and microsimulation. Panel chairperson Alex van der Heever announced that a recommendation was made to the government to institutionalise the Social Relief of Distress grant, with a Basic Income Support grant of R1 500 monthly, aimed at those over the age of 18-59 years who are unemployed.
