World No.11 Paul reached the semi-finals in the competition last year and cruised into the last 16 with a 6-3 7-5 victory at Indian Wells. Norrie, who had beaten Luca Nardi and Jiri Lehecka to reach the third round, did not have his best day on court and lost four of his five service games in the opening set.
The Brit (below) did break his opponent twice in that time, though Paul was much more clinical at the start of the second, contesting just 15 points across his first three service games while pushing Norrie to deuce in his first two, before breaking him to lead 4-2. Norrie immediately broke back before levelling the set at 4-4, then 5-5, but Paul (top)...
