It's a win-win for China as it exploits our witless obsession with decarbonisation while pumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere from coal-fired power stations.
This week, Labour MPs are being dragooned to vote against a House of Lords amendment to the Great British Energy Bill that will spend £189million of taxpayers' money on solar panels, many of them likely to have been made in China by forced labour from those who oppose the Communist regime. So, net zero trumps human rights and sucks yet more money out of our economy to enrich the Chinese autocracy.
Only ideologically-possessed idiots would consider this a good idea when Britain contributes less than 1% of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere while China is the world leader, producing 13,260 tons amounting to a staggering 33.98% of world emissions in 2023. Britain is 18th in the world league behind even Vietnam and South Africa.
If we are already such low-emitters, why are our political classes so intent on reducing our emissions even further, destroying our industry and looting our pockets? Thank goodness the Tories have finally admitted that hitting net zero by 2050 is impossible and not at all desirable for a modern economy with barely any growth.
But it was the Tories under Theresa May who enshrined in law the suicidal target that has already done so much damage to our steelmaking and car-making industries. The latter which now barely exists at all.
Yet such is the rigidity of the green agenda that we can't even keep a small South Wales mine open to produce high-quality British coal for our heritage railways and have to import it from abroad at a higher environmental cost.
This is the kind of apocalyptic madness that has infected our ruling classes which means common sense has been left way behind by a political elite of all colours which favours virtue-signalling above the health of our economy, jobs and wealth generation.
Every other nation is laughing at us. India, for a long time a recipient of our foreign aid, is now a space-exploring nation powering ahead producing seven times our emissions and celebrating just having extracted a record billion tonnes of coal in a single year.
Used tyres meant for recycling are even being sent to India where they end up in black-market furnaces burning the rubber, producing noxious gases.
The exploitation of our net zero madness is never-ending....
