Manchester University and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in the city will gather information from 100 survivors as part of their follow-up care with a questionnaire designed by 130 patients.
If this helps improve their experience, the plan is to roll it out at other hospitals.
Dr Kate Law, research fellow and specialist nurse at The Christie and honorary research associate at Manchester University, is leading the study YOU-CAN.
She said: "A third of all childhood cancers are brain tumours and survival is highest for 15 to 39-year-olds.
