They're trying to explain what this programme is actually for, for the benefit of those who may not have twigged.
Which is fair enough, isn't it? Given that this year's line-up of Comic Relief presenters includes only two actual comics, and given that one of those is Joel Dommett, a little more clarification can do no harm, can it? Particularly for viewers who fall into a younger age bracket, or who don't tend to watch a lot of TV, or who may just be as thick as mince.
So now those people have it. Clarification, that is. Throughout the evening, they now know that various celebs will be doing, or saying, various funny things, hoping that we'll then send them some of our own money to express our appreciation.
Not send it to the people being funny, of course, who already have plenty, but to the Comic Relief charity. The charity will then distribute whatever it raises among lots of indisputably excellent causes, here and abroad, plus possibly a couple we might quibble with if it were up to us, which of course it isn't.
And what will tonight's funny stuff consist of?
Well, it might surprise you, but I very much doubt it, to learn that it includes Strictly Come Dancing and Gladiators sketches. A bit more novel, there's another in which two hit BBC shows will overlap - namely, Not Going Out and Be...
