“Js this actually mine?” I wondered, unable to believe there was ever a time when I'd have wanted to listen to this person warbling her nonsense at me for nearly 40 minutes.
On a happier note, I also came across CDs I'd forgotten I'd bought by bands I'd forgotten I'd liked, or had just plain forgotten. Those, plus a Dylan compilation a pal burnt for me (do people still “burn” stuff on to CDs?), in a kind but largely futile bid to convert me.
All in all, this little interlude in my day ~a distraction of maybe half an hour - was both fascinating and rather lovely. It was nice to reflect on some of the music which, over the years, I've chosen to fork out actual money for, often at an actual shop (remember them?).
It was like turning the pages of an old photo album.
So that’s when I decided not to take them to the tip.
You see, we'd been planning a big domestic clearout (we've been in the same house for 30 years) and cold-hearted logic had told me my CDs’ time was up, that in the age of streaming they no longer served any purpose.
Thank God I saw sense and stopped myself.
