The British Hair Consortium trade body wants Chancellor Rachel Reeves to tackle tax system "structural flaws" that it claims have a "disproportionate impact" on the sector.
The group wants VAT on labour costs trimmed from 20% to 10% in her spring statement. The BHC claims the industry faces a 93% decline in employment by 2030 without reform, and no new apprenticeships by 2027.
It says a CBI Economics study found independent salons and a "generation of skilled professionals could disappear".
