As 2024’s biggest race unfolds, Ned tries to keep up with the relentless pace set by the two biggest names

Reporting, or in my case commentating, at the Tour de France is a rare honour. But in fact, it’s the only experience I’ve ever had of consuming this unique cycling spectacle. Prior to being sent to cover the race in 2003 for the first time, I had never once watched it. So, it goes without saying that I have no experience at all of what it must feel like to follow the race from afar; the experience of the vast majority of Cycling Plus’s readership.
