First off, it’s worth saying that this incarnation of Shimano 105 – 12-speed, wide-range gears, hydraulic brakes – is an excellent groupset and keeps up 105’s reputation as the everyday rider’s groupset of choice. All three of our test bikes are more than worthy of Shimano’s high-quality offering.
The Basso – with its shorter wheelbase and more compact rear end – has slightly aggressive geometry for an endurance bike, though its taller head-tube points to its distance-riding credentials. The stiff head-tube and bottom bracket area ensure excellent, rock-steady handling, and while the ride is undeniably firm, it’s not uncomfortable.
