Snowdonia

In Snowdonia, the mountains meet the sea to stunning effect, and you’re treated to a fine example above the coastal town of Barmouth (opposite). Wales’ biggest national park hugs its western coastline from Aberdyfi to Porthmadog and is a feast for the senses. Snowdonia is known for its mountain biking (Bala, Betwsy-Coed) but don’t let that sway you. There’s much to enjoy here on tarmac and gravel. The often-brooding conditions overhead translate into one of the UK’s wettest regions – four metres annually is common – but pick the right day and Snowdonia is as pretty as a picture.
